KSKM 245 and Montage 16

Hey all,
Bit late for me, about to head off to bed. But this will be the last release before Christmas!
So hang out your little scanslation stockings and hope that something nice arrives in it Christmas morning πŸ™‚

Haha! That guy’s name [Gianni(s) Skandalaki(s)] is definitely Greek.

Thanks for the release, excellent quality as always. I’m a selfish bastard who doesn’t always bother to comment (mainly because of the need to invent a fake e-mail address), but at least I try to click on the “thank you” button πŸ˜€

Many thanks. Wish you a merry Christmas, Hanukkah or whatever you believe in or not!

@randomfan we don’t really know what his name is supposed to be. Figuring out names from katakana spelling is more art than science. Gianni Skandalaki was our best guess. In romaji it is “janni sukandarakkii”.

@cmertb Oh, don’t worry, you did a fine job – the “s” is optional, in the sense that nouns (including proper nouns) are inflected in Greek, so it might or might not be there. Most Greeks, especially males (since for females the s usually is never there), keep the “s” (eg. -akis) when transliterating their last name in English, which has a much simpler grammar; that’s why I put it in parenthesis, but there is no rule. A person can chose to transliterate their name however they like. I wasn’t even sure it was supposed to be Greek until I saw the name. BTW, Giannis = John. The surname was probably intended as a parody or joke, since the stem “scandal” (= trigger = scandal!) is a bit ridiculous.

I should have guessed katagana would be hilariously inaccurate for Western names. πŸ™‚

On a side-note, after writing comment #5, I noticed that the name “WATANABE Jun” on Batoto sounded familiar – sure enough, he’s the genius behind RRR! I’m a big fan of that manga (“Ippo done right”), even though it ended a bit abruptly, and I’ll DEFINITELY read “Montage”. The first 2 chapters were interesting already, with excellent art, story and character development (no time to fully catch up).

So, huge thumbs-up for scanlating this as well! KSKM is a bit of a “guilty pleasure” among the dozens of manga I’m following (the humour, though hilarious, is too crude sometimes and many characters, besides being ridiculously/unrealistically ripped, have paper-thin personalities… you get the picture, I complain too much), but Montage has the potential to become an urasawa-level masterpiece… if it doesn’t get the axe πŸ˜›

PS. This is why I avoid commenting, I tend to write HUGE posts when I should actually be studying. Apologies for the walls of text. πŸ˜€

I’ve just noticed there are more than 12 volumes of Montage already – wow, I guess it’s not ending too soon. DEFINITELY reading this one, if the quality of RRR is any indication!

I’m grateful for your excellent quality releases, even though I’m leaching and not even thanking you properly. I *do* know that both cleaning and translation need a lot of time. I wish I could volunteer to help (if you need proof-readers – about the only thing I can do πŸ™ ), but I’ll be too busy in the foreseeable future with those damn studies/thesis.

@randomfan: As long as cmertb will keep being motivated, Montage will keep being worked on and released. And we’re absolutely fine with long comments, as long as it’s a good read. I can’t say for the others, but I, for one, read all the comments, even though we may not respond to many of them.

And yes, there is a lot to catch up to, 11 more volumes for Montage. As for helping out, mostly translators are needed at the moment. I think it was said before, but we have small, compact teams working on the series, so we can keep track of everything that’s going on.

Just FYI, but we picked up Montage specifically because of RRR. I had my eye on this manga ever since I completed RRR. It really is a page turner, especially around v4 when the whole conspiracy starts getting more and more tangled. Honestly, I wish I could drop everything else and just release Montage daily to catch up to Japan. But yeah, it’s up to the readers to keep our motivation up. πŸ˜‰

    Hi deadbeat,

Thanks for releasing KSKM and Montage. Are you in need of J-E Translator? And for which series? Would like to help out.

  10. cmertb Reply

@Musashi we need another translator for KSKM so releases can go faster. Can you register on the forum and post something in the recruitment section if you’re interested, so I can PM you?

@cmertb Will do so. What about peace maker? It’s been 3 months since the last release and just wondering if it were held up by the lack of TL.

Hey Musashi, translate Capeta!!! hahahah xD… please Y_Y

It’s going to be one of the ugliest anime ever made. I can’t get used to the author’s drawing style. And fighting games don’t excite me either. If it were about obsessing over strategy games, I’d be all over it. πŸ™‚
